Academia Iria Flavia was born in 1994 in Santiago de Compostela. It is located only 2 minutes away from the monumental area and very close to the main sights and monuments. It is a small and homely school, accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, the only international accreditation in the study of the Spanish language, providing quality assurance. We work daily to meet these requirements and to continuously improve our standards. One of our identity traits is our great variety of specialized programs: General Spanish, School & University Groups, Spanish + Internship, Teacher Training (funded by Erasmus + programms), Spanish on the Camino de Santiago... We offer an excellent social programme with a minimum of 3 free afternoon activities per week: orientation tour + welcome drink and a tapa; Attending to concerts, cinema or theatre; Film showings; Spanish music samplings; Visits to the open-air marketplace; Tour around the handcraft shops; Spanish folk games; Vocabulary games; Talks about Spanish culture and customs... There are many reasons to choose Santiago de Compostela as your study trip destination. It is small: 90.000 residents and 45 minutes of walking distance between their opposite ends. It is also quiet and welcoming, and a really friendly city. Home to one of the oldest universities in Spain (35.000 students), it is not only a centre of religious pilgrimages. It is a young and exciting city: a third of its population are university students, and it boasts a rich cultural and leisure offer that lasts all year round! It is a beautiful town with a great historical and artistic value (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with one of the biggest and best preserved historic centres in Spain. The monumental area is pedestrianized and keeps its medieval structure, with narrow streets and colonnades. But especially, Santiago de Compostela is lesser known as destination for language trips. It does not suffer the saturation of foreign students which happens in other more traditional destinations. With an international airport 9 Km. from the city centre, it is easy to get to Santiago in direct flights from many European cities: Amsterdam, Bassel, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneve, London, Milan, Paris, Rome, Zurich... It is also the end of El Camino de Santiago. From its origins, this millenary pilgrims’ route facilitated important cultural exchanges between the different countries where the Camino passed by, and today is considered as the germ of the European identity.
